Last October 24th, Cebu City Marriott Hotel held a culinary competition among its in-house chefs to showcase their outstanding skills in cooking and abilities to perform under pressure. I, together with some other bloggers and 50 other exclusive Club Marriott members, witnessed the said kitchen showdown, and boy, are we in for some treat!
Four Chefs, One Title
There were four chosen culinarians who competed for the title of the Best Chef of the Year. Each of them has undergone rigorous training under the highest Marriott standards, so you could definitely expect a world-class masterpiece.
With this cook-off, they were able to prove their culinary abilities as they try to woo the judges with an appetizer and a savory main dish. Every contestant was given 30 minutes to prepare, cook, and present the dishes with style.
Cocktail + Friends
Seeing the chefs in action was indeed a treat for us. Meanwhile, while they were all busy preparing and cooking their mouth-watering food masterpieces, we tried to distract ourselves with the hotel’s Cranberry and Lychee Jasmine Tea. I swear, this is one of their must-try healthy drinks!
There were also some desserts on the cocktail table, enough to entertain our mouths with their delicacies. The moist chocolate cake was a favorite, but I’d bet for the mini custard pie, too!
Appetizers + Main Dishes
At the end of the one-hour cooking session, people flocked to witness the plated dishes served to the judges. I wish we were able to taste their scrumptious creations though, but I heard every single one of it was divine!
After the entire cooking session was over, the judges were to choose the winner. I’ve got to say, I salute these chefs for doing a job so well even under time pressure! Cooking in more or less 30 minutes is no joke at all, but then again, they’re trained to comply with the highest quality upheld by this hotel.
